Stampin' Up!

Sneak Peek – Fabulous Flamingo

27.05.2017 Fabulous Flamingo Wood 07

“Who’s a pretty bird?”….. It has to be this Fabulous Flamingo of course!!

I just adore this gorgeous NEW stamp set from the upcoming 2017-2018 annual catalogue by Stampin’ Up!. I mean it could be because I have a “thing” for flamingo’s (& pineapples), but I also adore it because I’ve had so much fun coming up with lots of different looks with this stamp set.

For this card I’ve paired the Fabulous Flamingo stamp set with the NEW Wood Textures Designer Series Paper (DSP for short). I am crushing on this paper at the moment, especially the white design.

I wanted to let both the paper & the stamp set shine, so I have kept the layout very simple. I’ve added a soft visual border by using Crumb Cake cardstock as a backing layer & added some texture using the Linen Thread to create a romantic bow. A few tiny rhinestones add just the right amount of sparkle.

After stamping the flamingo in 3 different colours, I created extra definition & interest by adding in shadows & highlights with the Stampin’ Up! watercolour pencils. To do that I simply started colouring in directly on top of the ink. I kept on going until I had built up a lovely base & then started adding in fine pencil lines to create to depth & movement. I’m not going to say it was a quick process, but it was an enjoyable one.

If you’re like me, you probably find colouring in quite relaxing, so I’d recommend that you give this technique a go. It’s easier than you might think & if you use a stamp set like this one, that has inbuilt shadow lines, you’ll find you have no problems working out where to make it darker, & where to keep it lighter. Don’t forget that you can use the white pencil in the set to add in highlights in places or to lighten up any areas that you feel are too dark. To use it, just colour over the top of the other pencils & you’ll start to notice a subtle lightening & change in colour.

To hold the Linen Thread in place I popped a glue dot under the knot of the bow & then used the Fine Tip Glue Pen to add tiny dots of glue under the “tails” to keep them perfectly in place.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my sneak peek at the Fabulous Flamingo set & the Wood Textures designer series paper. Don’t forget to come back again soon, as I have a few other Flamingo cards to share with you :-).

If  you love this card, it would make my day to hear from you, so feel free leave me a comment.

Much Love, K xo
